The steps I use to reproduce the problem are as follows:1) Run PS2) Open a bmp file (i've tried more than one with similar results)3) Select magic wand tool with following options: New Selection Tolerance: 32 Anti-Aliased: Checked Contiguous: Checked Use All Layers: Unchecked4) Click on area of bmp to select with tool5) Hold left-shift key to add to existing selection6) Click on other areas of bmp7) Repeat steps 5-6 until error (Stop dialog saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error") occurs
The error does not always appear after the same number of selections and seems to change depending on the area selected and the file used, but the error eventually occurs every time. Sometimes I also get an Application Error from windows (Unhandled exception at 0x77f47a6d in Photoshop.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000). I've tried to debug this (with Visual Studio) but without source code it's not terribly useful. I could provide a call stack trace if you need it, though.
Another thing I've noticed is that on the occasion that I DO NOT get an application error from windows, I can hit OK on the PS error dialog and then the magic wand action works fine. Very strange, indeed.
I disabled HyperThreading in the motherboard BIOS and the problem went away. This is not an acceptable solution in my book. Also, removing the Multiprocessor support plugin fixed the problem, but at a noticeable loss of performance.
